Batykó Róbert

I owe the subjects of my paintings to serendipity, in that I chance upon the objects or phenomena that serve as the starting points for my works. I set out from reality, which today means not only the sensible, the tangible, but often photographs and the myriad digital images on the internet.

My work is also in search of an answer for an important theoretical question, i.e. what is the role and "raison d'etre" of painting in the increasingly polarized world of art? It is thus no accident that surfaces are more and more emphatic in my work, as I seek to render the quality of paints perceptible, as if to stress that no other technique could have produced the work.
