Alpern Bernadett
Born in 1987 in Budapest, Bernadett Alpern lives and works in the city.
She completed her studies at the University of Kaposvar - Art Department - on the Press Photography and Picture Editor faculty. During her studies she participated in the Sirius scholarship program in North Denmark in 2008. Her work at this time concentrated on documenting her travels exploring different cultures and people around Europe. Then she moved to England, where she made her series “Identity in the Land” concentrating on the relationship between human and landscape.
These themes were continued in her diploma work, culminating in a six-month period in Israel on a Masa scholarship. A journey to her personal Jewish roots evolved into a search for peace in the landscape and people of a troubled region. The current project was conceived in a journey to search for family roots in Sárbogárd in the country-side in Hungary. There she found an old synagogue used as a furniture store. This was expanded into a lucrative journalistic assignment for Israel's largest newspaper, Israel Hayom, in collaboration with Ronen Dorfan in October 2012 concentrating on Hungary and Serbia.
